Kinilaw

Yey one of my favorite food aside from the adobo is kinilaw or kinilao. In my place in Pinas we could in the market fresh fish all the time. My favorite type of fish that I like to make as a kinilaw is the fish we call "tangigue" or "malasugue". Both are big fish but the tangigue is the reddish one while the malasugue has the white color. Both of them are really good for kinilaw but my brother and me preferred the malasugue.
In preparing kinilaw my brothers style, first we ask the fish vendor to slice it for us. Then the ingredients are vinegar, ginger, kalamansi, tabon2x, lime, onion, salt and of course the siling halang.
How my brother prepare it, some people wash the fish with vinegar and squeeze it a little but he didn't do that because he says that the vinegar can cook the fish meat. Rather he immediately mixed all the ingredients together and lastly mix the fish to the mixture and season it with salt. It is kind of simple but it does taste good.

Linat-ang baboy or sinigang na baboy

This is what we call in bisaya or cebuano "linat-ang baboy" or in tagalog sinigang na baboy. Masarap siya pag may halong taba at ribs compare to pure lean meat lang. The other difference to our linat-an sa amin and the tagalog sinigang we don't put sili or anything na maasim. We just boil the meat of course and then put "lutya" to make the stew "malapot" then petchay or "bokchoy" here in US. Aside from the vegies we also put ginger and lemon grass or "tanglad". Season it with little sea salt and thats it the "linat-ang baboy" is ready to eat.

Kaya today, I missed this food so much because we are raining at malamig ang simoy nang hangin. Kung hinde man ako makakapagluto nang ganito today I will just make "lugaw". So brb for now because I am going to the kusina. Happy weekend everyone and God bless you all!

Fried rice and piniritong bangus

Last Sunday after church, hubby and I went directly to the Oriental market. A friend of mine gave the address and she said that they have a variety of fish there. As soon as we enter the store I was already very excited the whole place are full of asian stuff from chinese, korean, and filipino food. But when I was in the frozen section I almost jump for joy hehehe I found it... the fishes. They have tuna, bangus (milk fish), tilapia, at iba pang klaseng isda. But I was into tuna and bangus so I grab three packs. I also get lumpia wrapper, wonton wrapper and the japanese eggplant and hipon pang pinakbet. Loving what I bought that day, for more than a month now I haven't eaten fish. When I was in the Philippines last month I ate fish everyday and vegies to my heart delight and I missed it. So today I fry one bangus and make fried rice and here is my picture.
Now I am ready to do more cleaning my stomach is full. Have a good day all!!

A breakfast

  • Hubby and I went to Lapeer yesterday because it is there Lapeer day. But before plunging in with all the rides and craft booth and all we decided to go get a brunch. Here is what I got a biscuit with gravy, 2 eggs, 2 sausage links and a bowl of fruit. It is a typical american breakfast food and I already like it though. Here is the picture.

Biko anyone??

A friend of mine Mary went to the Philippines for a 3 weeks vacation that is a good news right? But the sad news is that when she come back to US she won't come back to Michigan rather she is going to Las Vegas(her point of entry) because they are moving to Arizona. So after all the packing and everything she gave me a huge pack of glutenous rice a pack of grated cassava (she want's me to cook huh) lol! Anyway, I was so thankful of the glutenous rice and the cassava and as we parted ways and as we said our goodbyes we both like to cry but I choose not to cry it will be just hard for both of us (sad). Anyhow, I made a biko the other day and as I make it I keep on thinking of her I don't know if she is already in Arizona or is still in the Philippines. Here is the picture of my biko or rice cake.

Sitaw guisado with summer squash

Grabe na ang multi-tasking ko dito, as of this writing I am currently doing my laundry and had to put the washed towels outside to be dry out by the sun (they smell good). And then I am online in my facebook to harvest my crops in farmville, farmtown, sunshine ranch and check my restaurant and check my house in yoville! And most of all I am cooking!! Gutom na ako at para hinde ma pasma ang aking beauty I have to cook and here is what I come up for todays lunch and dinner later hehe.

The ingredients are:

  1. pork (cut in cubes)
  2. onions
  3. garlic
  4. sitaw
  5. zucchini
  6. salt and pepper to taste

Saute the onion first then when it turns transparent put the garlic. Put the meat and let it turn brown then put a little water just to let the meat get tender and cover. When the meat is tender put together the zucchini and sitaw cover again. After about 2 minutes put salt and pepper to taste. If the vegetables are tender and the meat you are done. That is how simple this dish is. Happy eating.

Shrimp vegetable pasta

  • I made this last Friday and it was awesome. In the original recipe there was no shrimp in it but since I was craving for seafood I thought of putting a shrimp on it and it came out really2x good. Here is the picture.

3 ounces uncooked angel hair pasta 1 cup chopped zucchini
1 1/2 cup fresh mushroom
1/3 cup chopped green pepper
1/4 cup chopped onion
1 garlic clove
2 tsp olive oil
1 pc tomato diced
dash of pepper
mozzarella cheese (sprinkle on top)

Cook past according to package instructions. Meanwhile, in a large skillet, saute the zucchini, mushrooms, green pepper, onion and garlic in oil until vegetables are crisp-tender. Stir in the tomatoes, olives and pepper; heat through.
Drain pasta. divide between two plates. Top vegetable mixture and cheese. Good for two.

Note: I modify some of the ingredients a good cook can modify any recipe according to your taste and ingredients availability. Happy eating!!

Table full of food...

We were at Niagara Falls, Canada last year and part of the hotel's promo is a dinner for two. So when we arrived at the hotel and after we put our things in our room we immediately pay a visit to the restaurant because our tummy are grumbling. The restaurant was pretty nice, we choose to seat at the veranda where we could see the people pass by and also we could see the colorful buildings across us. So the waitress came and handed us the menu and one thing captured my attention it was a picture that has four different kinds of dish. I asked hubby if it is okay for him if that is what we are going to order and he agreed. When our order came jeezz our table was full hubby asked me if we could finished it all, fortunately we finished it all that is how hungry we are. One of this dish is zucchini deep fried and I was thinking of making this too I hope I could imitate it since I was craving for zucchini and I have a lot here lying on the table. Here is the picture.
