Summer squash & Zucchini

To those who had a garden and planted vegetables last spring for sure you are already harvesting the fruit of your labor. Hubby and I had a little garden and we planted different vegetables on it. Since last week we started to harvest different kind of veggies, like zucchini and summer squash. Before I do not know what to do with this two vegetables they are not familiar to me. But I search online and found simple but tasty recipe to go with these vegetables. Here is my saute zucchini and summer squash.

I cute the summe squash and zucchini almost the same size. I did not peel them. I cut onions, green pepper and garlic. In a wok or pan I put butter then put the onion and when it is translucent I put the garlic. Then I put the zucchini and summer squash together with the pepper. I cut one medium tomato and broil it. When the vegetable is soft and done I put on top the tomatoes and minced parsley. Serve while hot! Hubby loves it!

I fry chicken which hubby loves and on the side is my vegetable saute. I did not know it does look good and taste good I will do this again for sure. Try it too!

Lemon Water

When hubby and I went to a Lavender Festival I found out that essential oils is helpful to our body. So we bought a kit for $30.00 which contains 1 lemon, 1 lavender and 1 pepper 5 ml essential oils. Last Thursday we went for a seminar about the usage of essential oils. I know now that essential oils can be mix with a lot of things like food one that it is easy to make is the lemon water. When we get home I immediately put water to my glass jar and put 2 drops of lemon essential then I slice one lemon. I put a lot of ice and that is what we drink the whole day. Instead of drinking coffee hubby drink lemon water. Now everyday I make lemon try to make at your home too.

My flower garden is full of Black Eyed Susan. I thought of cutting some of them so it would bloom more flowers and I did. Now I am enjoying fresh flowers everyday and it made me happy.

Favorite Fruits

The good thing about here in the Philippines we are abundant of fresh fruits. Yesterday, my family and I went to Iligan City to visit my niece. I like to go around the wet market or public market just to feel the spirit of the city. I believe  that in a place where the people meet is where you find  the culture of the place. Here are some fruit stalls that I took photos. People are joyful and happy to pose for me hahaha. They even said put it in facebook!! Being happy, smiling and joyful is one good treat or attribute that Filipinos have. Here are some of my photos.

Informal Dinner or Luncheon

Informal Dinner or Luncheon

Simply start with a basic setting and add to it.
  1. If salad is to be served, the salad fork is placed to the left of the dinner fork. Eliminate the salad fork if no salad is served or place it to the right of the dinner fork to use as a dessert fork if appropriate. (The dessert fork can also be brought to the table when dessert is served.)
  2. If soup is served, set the bowl on the plate and a soup spoon to the right of the beverage spoon.
  3. Salad or bread and butter plates go to the left of the forks. Position butter plates above the forks with the butter spreader placed across the plate.
  4. Cup and saucer go above the spoons with the handle toward the right. Wine or water glasses handle toward the right. Wine or water glasses can be positioned to the left of the coffee cup. source:The Taste of Home Cookbook

This time I go for the blue color. Thanks to a friend she gave all her candles to me. Thanks Ms L.

Suman

Suman is a Filipino rice cake steamed in banana leaves. The ingredient of suman is the glutenous rice (malagkit) which is cooked with coconut milk (gata). Among the many varieties are suman sa ibos, suman sa lihiya. Few weeks ago a bunch of friends went to our friends house and made suman. This is how it look when you peel the banana leaves. You can deep the suman with sugar, or brown sugar and with hot pure cocoa (sikwati) and or coffee it does taste good.

Halo2x & Mango

I think this is the only Summer that I could say the hottest o fall Summer. Last two weeks ago we almost hit 100F and if you are from Michigan that is toooooo hot!! This week, thankfully
we are going to have below 90F temperature and a little of rain here and there. Great!!
Because 70F - 80F above is too hot already. And so what I did is to make Halo2x
for hubby. It's made with crush ice, slice of mango, sweetened mixed fruit, sweetened
beans, corn flakes, purple yam jam, vanilla ice cream, evaporated milk.

Went to Sam's last Monday and find this one small case of Mangoes!! I was not craving for it though but it just remind me of Philippines. It's Summer in the Philippine right now and if it's Summer, mangoes are one of the fruits that are abundant at this time. One case has 15 pieces for only $6.00. I didn't eat it right away and yesterday I tried to eat one I ended up eating 3 pieces it's so sweet.

Pineapple juice, garlic toast and herb and butter pasta which I put sweet peas.

Fried rice & Galungong

Here is another dish that I so long to eat. In the Philippines we have the privilege to have galunggong (fish) and okra every day, if you want to. But here in the US, as I have shared it here that it will took us at least 45 minutes drive to go to an Oriental market, and so that's why when I get there I would spend at least $100 and most of that is to fish ^_^. This three piece galungong is worth $2.99 and it's packed already and I knew in the Philippines with that amount they can have maybe 1 kilo or 2 kilos for that. The other day, I fried the galungong and with my night old cooked rice I made  fried rise. I then steamed okra and voila superb dish I had!! ^_^
Fried rice with scrambled egg and peas
I don't know about others but I like okra with my galungong (I fried it)  and vinegar to dip, yum yum!!
