It's Ruby Tuesday and Rednesday again and as any other meme's I am excited with this one. My feature of this week is all about Holly
The first time I set my eyes on this tree is when I first came here in US in 2004. It was fall when I arrived here and everything was all brown and it was cold. Coming from a tropical country Philippines the weather and the surrounding was very new to me I had to adjust a lot. But of all the barrenness kind of feeling that engulfed me the holly berries makes me smile. One time I was so fascinated by it I couldn't help but walk near it and touched it. I like it so much because of the very distinct red color and at the back of my mind how come this is the only tree that produces color on the brown and white surrounding. Well then I knew later that they survive winter for the animals or birds for their shelter and food. Though hubby told me that they are poisonous or mildly toxic when ingested by people, (I didn't knew that), I thought all berries can be eaten like strawberry, cranberry, raspberry, blackberry (is that the cellphone? ^_^) blueberry, mulberry (can't stop eating with this one just love it), elderberries, etc ^_^ but I guess in every rule there is always an exception hehe and the holly berry is one of them. Enjoy the weekend everyone and be safe!

Your holly berries are wonderful!
The look of Winter in the Northern USA offers some interesting choices: these berries look wonderful among the lack of foliage on the trees. So we see some life among the gray of the season...
We have a mulberry tree in our front yard, and the fruit is quite edible - and sweet!
Wowowowow parang ang tamis nyan ate.. May rednesday din pala na meme, okay di b dyan hehehe..
Here's my Snowy Chinese RT

I had no idea that is how it grew! What beautiful berries....isn't it ironic they are not good for us humans but those little creatures can eat as many as they want! Thanks for these photos!
Beautiful pictures of those holly berries! I've tried growing holly, but had no luck. I grew them because I wanted the birds to be able to eat the berries. I didn't know that you have to have a male and female holly bush. I didn't know there was such a thing!
Happy REDnesday!

It's too bad the most beautiful berry of them all has to be toxic! I love the look of Holly Berries! Thanks for sharing and I hope you are having a great Wednesday and a great week! Sherri : )
The holly berries are very bright and pretty! Thanks for sharing all the info about them. Happy REDnesday and thanks for your visit.
Blessings,

Beautiful photos! I don't have any holly, but have a barberry which has red berries. Would love to get a winterberry bush!
These bright red berries look like hanging treasures of rubies. So very appropriate for today's meme.
Very pretty, hollie berries always make me smile.
I grew up in the Northeast and even after twenty years I'm still glad for the colorful winters we have here.
Beautiful red!
