Crab Apple

I have not known crab apple until I came here in the US. Well what I know about apple is the sweet and juicy one. I came here in the US in the middle of fall and what I saw for the very first time was all brown and trees are naked ^_^ Since here in Michigan it took at least six months for fall and winter to warm up I don't have any idea that we have several apple trees and pears but to my dismay they are sour! But because I do not care I try to eat it but it's just too sour no matter I eat it with salt can't eat more than two. When every flowers and trees are blooming the fruits started to show their beauty I had a good time taking photos of the so called "crab apples". What about you bloggers what you call this sour apple at your area is it also "crab apple"?

Reminiscing the time when hubby was busy baling hay. The day is beautiful I took photos of him. I think the other photo here is a rose hip and here is one side of our barn. At the end of the busy day a beautiful sunset is captured too.

There is something about that shade of barn red that just sets my heart aflutter. The barn, the tractor... wonderful country pictures.

I have heard of crab apples, I believe the blossoms on the tree before flowering are gorgeous. Loved the photos, thanks for sharing. Have a great week!

I know of crab apples, but not tasted them, so I cannot say how they taste. Yet, for RT, they are little rubies that we can pivk from a tree!

I never know about crab apples before this. So what are they used for, for baking?

If you are living on a farm having a hubby driving a proud red tractor, you are some lucky woman. The crab apples and the rose hips are full of vitamins and pectins and my grandmother used to collect them for making jam (rose hips) and crab apples for mixing the other sorts of berries for winter storage( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malus). I have yellow crab apples, but I only rarely collect them, they ripen so late in the autumn here north. Wonderful, rural pictures. I love them all.

Looks like a beautiful day on your farm! Great pictures. I've heard of crab apple jelly. Never had crab apples, but maybe they be better cooked, with some cinnamon and sugar?

What pretty photos! I love the flowers of the crab apple tree, but have never tried the fruit... You have such beautiful rose hips -- in my yard, the deer eat them all winter long, and by spring there are none left on the branches!

Lovely photos. We saw a beaver chomping on rosehips on a trip to Maine last summer - I guess they're not sour for him :).

Yes , we call them crab apples here in NC. I think the tree blooming is pretty, but I don't care for the fruit.
Your pics are beautiful !
